The Landing or Lower Gibsons is where this historic town began. It may look familiar because it was the setting for the CBC Series The Beachcombers from 1971 to 1990. Fans of the show will recognize the landmark Molly’s Reach. This former set now serves great food and a chance to experience the Gibsons legacy firsthand.
Molly’s Reach is the best spot in town to start your tour of the galleries, cafes, bookstores and shops surrounding our busy fishing wharf.
Enjoy the craftsmanship of the beautiful log wharfinger building and shop for fresh seafood at the busy harbour with Keats Island and the coastal mountains in the background.
A beautiful seawalk takes you around the harbour and close to Gibsons marina where you can dream about sailing away on anything from a luxury yacht to a fishing boat or take a boat tour and just relax.
Next to the seawalk you’ll find the charming Winegarden Waterfront Park – host to outdoor concerts and a Weekend Market held from May to September full of locally made arts.
Whatever time of year you visit, after an afternoon in Gibsons you'll feel like a local.
In 2009, Gibsons was named the Most Liveable Community in the World. Gibsons was also the winner of the outstanding award for Planning for the Future.
On your way up to Upper Gibsons you can turn off on Winn Road and visit the Sunshine Coast Museum & Archives. Here you can explore the history and natural beauty of the area. Collections include Natural History, First Nations, Pioneer, Beachcombers, Small wooden boats and models and some fantastic photographs of the area from the Allen and Sharie Farrell Collection.
Upper Gibsons hosts two shopping malls and a number of restaurants to fill your shopping and eating needs. The Gibsons Cinema across from the shopping centre shows first-run flicks and was designed by renowned architect Arthur Erickson. Ask to be seated in the VIP room.
When you’ve seen enough of the town, it's only 5 minutes by car to Ocean Ridge Retreat to soak in the hot tub, sit on the deck and admire the view, read a book, or stop and smell the flowers in our garden.
From our three-day Jazz Festival to our Outrigger Canoe Races and from the Gibsons Sea Cavalcade to the weekly Outdoor Market in the summers, we can keep you entertained. To find out what’s on check out our Events Calendar.
